WEDDING CAKE FAQs
-
Every wedding cake is individually designed, so pricing will vary depending on the size, design and level of detail.
You can view my wedding cake sizes and prices on the Sizes & Pricing page to get an idea of what to expect.
Once I know a little more about your wedding, guest numbers and the style of cake you’re looking for, I’ll provide you with a personalised quote.
-
I offer a range of wedding cake sizes, from single tier cakes for smaller celebrations through to four tier cakes for larger weddings.
The right size will depend on your guest numbers, whether you’re serving the cake as a dessert or alongside other food, and the overall look you’d like to achieve.
You can view my sizes and pricing guide. If you unsure what size would work best, we can recommend one based on your guest numbers.
-
There are a few things to think about when choosing your wedding cake:
Guest Numbers: Your guest count will help determine the best cake size for your wedding. You can use the serving guide and I’m always happy help recommend a size.
Flavours: Choose a flavour (or flavours!) you’ll generally love eating. Different flavours can be chosen for each tier of your wedding cake, and cake tasting boxes are available if you’d like to try a selection before deciding.
Design: Think about the overall style of your wedding rather than feeling like your cake needs to match everything perfectly. Your flowers, stationery, venue, colours and even your dress can all be lovely starting points for the design.
Budget: Wedding cake pricing varies depending on the size, design and level of detail involved. You can view my starting prices and cake sizes to get an idea of what may work for your budget.

Absolutely! Each tier of your wedding cake can be a different flavour, so you don’t have to choose just one. You can mix and match from my Wedding Cake Flavours menu.
-
Yes, absolutely! I offer wedding cake tasting boxes every few months, with a selection of flavours for you to try at home before choosing your favourites.
If you miss a cake tasting box date or would like to try a particular flavour, I can also make a mini cake for you to sample.
-
Yes, I make gluten free cakes as well as dairy free chocolate cakes. I don’t currently offer vegan wedding cakes, however vegan cupcakes are available.
If only a few guests have dietary requirements, I can provide a small separate or cupcakes for them, rather than making your entire wedding cake gluten or dairy free. Vegan cupcakes can also be ordered separately for vegan guests.
Please note my kitchen is not an allergen-free environment. While I take care to thoroughly clean equipment and work surfaces, wheat flour and other allergens are regularly used in my kitchen, so I cannot guarantee that any cake or cupcake is completely free from traces of allergens. If you or one of your guests has a severe allergy, please let me know before ordering.
-
No I don’t use fondant. All Em & Skye wedding cakes are finished with Swiss meringue buttercream.
-
Absolutely! Fresh flowers are one of my favourite ways to decorate a wedding cake.
The easiest option is to have your florist provide the flowers at your venue on the day. This also means your cake flowers will beautifully complement the rest of your wedding florals. I’ll take care of arranging them on your cake during set-up.
Please ask your florist to leave the flowers loose and uncut, rather than taped or wired.
Alternatively I can souce the flowers for you. Simply let me know your colour palette and any flower preferences, and I’ll organise the rest.
-
Yes, absolutely! You’re welcome to provide your own cake topper for me to add during set-up, or you can deliver it to me beforehand. Alternatively, I can organise a custom cake topper for you to complement your wedding cake design.
-
I recommend getting in touch as soon as you have your wedding date and venue confirmed. Popular dates, particularly during Wellington’s wedding season, can book out well in advance.
Availability does vary throughout the year, so you can check my booking calendar on the Wedding Cake Enquiry Form page to see whether your wedding date is currently available.
-
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your wedding date and confirm your booking. The remaining balance will be due 4 weeks before the wedding date.
-
I deliver wedding cakes throughout Wellington and the wider region including Porirua, Kāpiti, Ōtaki, the Wairarapa and Masterton.
If your wedding venue is outside these areas, please get in touch. I may still be able to deliver depending on the location and date.
-
All tiered cakes are delivered by me, so you don’t have to worry about transporting your cake on the day. I've delivered wedding cakes to venues throughout Wellington and beyond, including Boomrock and across the Remutakas into the Wairarapa, so your cake is in experienced hands!
I’ll arrangea suitable delivery time with you and your venue, usually aiming for around midday. Once I arrive, I’ll carefully set up your cake, add any finishing touches such as fresh flowers or a cake topper, and make sure everything is looking perfect before I leave.
Depending on the venue, weather and time your cake will be served, it may be placed in the chiller.
Delivery and set-up costs are calculated based on the distance from my Karori studio to your wedding venue and will be included in the quote.
